Our Surgical Philosophy

A Personal Perspective from Dr. Sim Lew-Gor

"No two faces age in the same way, because no two faces are built the same way."
About Dr. Sim Lew-Gor

Aesthetic Judgment Built on Surgical Foundations

"What separates a good facial surgeon from a competent one is knowing what to do, how much to do, and when to put the instruments down."
Dr. Sim Lew-Gor is an internationally trained facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon with more than two decades of specialist surgical experience across the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Australia.

His aesthetic judgment is built on surgical foundations. Early training in head and neck and reconstructive surgery developed his detailed knowledge of facial anatomy – not only as it appears, but also as it functions, heals, and ages.

That foundation continues to shape the way he approaches aesthetic surgery today. Rather than focusing on isolated features, his work considers the face as a whole (structure, proportion, movement, and expression) to achieve results that feel balanced and remain natural over time.
A Personal Approach to Facial Surgery

Three Guiding Principles

Your face is how you are recognised, how you express yourself, and how you are known by the people who love you. Because the face carries your identity, changing it affects more than just appearance. For that reason, every decision Dr. Lew-Gor makes in the consultation room – and in the operating theatre – is guided by these three principles.
01 — Principle

Anatomically sound

Surgery should respect and preserve structural integrity and function. These are never secondary to appearance. An understanding of how the face works (and not just how it looks) is the foundation of every decision made in planning and executing a procedure.
02 — Principle

Naturally proportionate

The aim is not to create change that draws attention to itself, but to restore balance in a way that is coherent with the patient's existing features. A result that looks operated is a result that has not achieved its purpose. When these principles are followed, the result doesn't announce itself. It’s noticeable, but not obvious.
03 — Principle

Carefully decided

Not every concern benefits from intervention, and part of responsible practice is recognising when surgery is not the right step. Some concerns need a different procedure. A few need nothing at all. A straight answer (in either direction) is part of what a consultation at this practice is designed to provide.
"Surgery should respect what is already there. The aim is not to create a different face, but to restore balance in a way that feels natural, stable, and appropriate over time."
This philosophy extends beyond the operating theatre. It shapes how consultations are conducted, how outcomes are measured, and how the practice engages with patients over the long term.
Training & Experience

Developed Across
Two Continents

Dr. Lew-Gor completed his medical and specialist training in the United Kingdom, working at several leading London teaching hospitals. Training within these institutions provided exposure to a wide range of complex facial and head and neck conditions, from reconstructive procedures to functional airway surgery and oncological cases.

This environment placed a strong emphasis on anatomical precision, multidisciplinary care, and careful clinical decision-making. He later undertook advanced fellowship-level training in head and neck and reconstructive surgery, further developing his expertise in managing complex facial anatomy.

He now consults and operates in Melbourne and New South Wales, providing care across both public and private settings.

Clinical Focus

Exclusively the Face & Neck

Dr. Lew-Gor's practice is focused exclusively on the face and neck. This level of focus allows for a more detailed understanding of how facial structures relate to one another, and how surgical changes influence overall balance.

A background in reconstructive and head and neck surgery continues to inform every aspect of his aesthetic practice – including experience in complex facial reconstruction, airway and functional surgery, and head and neck oncology. These disciplines require a detailed understanding of tissue behaviour, healing, and structural support which are the principles that translate directly into aesthetic surgery.

The result is an approach that is disciplined, anatomically grounded, and less reliant on superficial correction.
